We are really at the end of the school year!  It just doesn't seem possible.  The weather really has felt like Memorial Day is here.

This week in Chapel we celebrated the character trait of perseverance.  Our award winner was Brooke Buhite!  Congratulations, Brooke!

Perseverance is refusing to give up when life gets hard.

The scripture is Colossians 3:23  "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters.

As we finish the year, I want to thank you all for allowing me to work with your children.  I have seen such growth academically and have matured into 2nd Graders!  I would recommend that your continue to encourage your child to read all summer.  Join the Reading club at your local library.  We learned about the Harford County program yesterday.

Have a blessed holiday weekend!!

We are in the final count down......8 days to go!!

We are busy trying to finish the year strong.  The Spring Program went very well.  The students did a great job being elephants and chickens and a farmer!  The songs were cheery.

We have been studying insects.  Our Scholastic News this week had an activity where we could create our own insects.  Here is what we came up with:

The students got copies of all the bugs and were asked to pick one of two to write about in their journals.

We were finally able to have a nice day for field day!  The kids all had a great time!  Once again, I was too busy participating to take pictures, but a fun time was had by all!!

Next week is a short week with an early dismissal on Thursday and no school on
Friday of Monday!

Have a great weekend!

This was a very busy week!  We had a wonderful celebration on Tuesday for our mother's!  We hosted  our "Mommy. Muffins and Me" breakfast.  We began our program with poem recitations form each of the students.  We then went into the Fellowship Hall to join Mrs. Hebding's first grade where we sang "My Girl" and "Because You Loved Me" to our mothers!

We enjoyed a tasty breakfast of muffins, bagels, donuts, fruit, juice and coffee and tea.  A good time wash ad by all......unfortunately, I was unable to get any pictures of the event.

THANK YOU to all the Mom's for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us!!

We were very excited to be able to release our butterflies this week!

We hare studying about insects and today we did a STEAM activity on pollination.
Each child was given a paper bag and a flower to glue onto their bag.  They were also given a bee to glue onto a popsicle stick.  Cheese curls were then placed into each bag.  Students went around from bag to bag with their bees and reached their have into the bags, touching the cheese curls.  As they did this the "pollen" cheese dust, got onto their fingers.  As they went to a flower, they would wipe their fingers onto the flower and transfer some pollen onto it.  It was a fun activity to see how pollination works!

We are coming into the final stretch of 1st grade!  As of today, we have been in school for 160 days.....with 13 days remaining!  I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by!

Next week we are scheduled to have FIELD DAY on Friday, the 17th!  Pray that the rain stays away!!
